Spring Cleaning your House: Top 3 Tips to Optimize Time and Progress
If you have limited time and do nothing else, take time for Tip #3!
When it comes to spring cleaning, many of us feel overwhelmed when looking at the end goal of a shiny, clean and tidy house. Let us simplify it for you and help you focus on these three tips to optimize your time and your goal of a fresh clean house.
Tip #1: Work Smarter not Harder
It’s rather easy to clear your weekend with the end goal in mind to complete your spring cleaning all at once. However, we know how life works and while that seems like a great strategy, there’s actually a better way to tackle this large project: divide it into smaller objectives to complete over a period of time.
You can do this by:
- Focusing on one room at a time versus an entire level or house.
- Start with smaller spaces like a half bathroom or hall closets.
- Use pockets of time like taking a break from work, school, or during nap time.
- Tackle the same task across a couple of rooms like wiping down the windows or dusting the baseboards.
Tip #2: Deep Clean the Fridge and Freezer
This one is rewarding in many ways besides just opening up a squeaky clean refrigerator. By taking the time to deep clean the fridge and freezer, helps you take inventory of what you have, need or has expired.
You can do this by:
- Evaluate all of the food; both in the fridge and freezer and get rid of anything that is expired.
- Use your vacuum attachment to get out all of the loose crumbs and particles.
- Mix one part white distilled vinegar and one part water to wipe down the inside. This solution will help to easily loosen up spilled and stuck on food.
- Incorporate storage organizers to optimize the space and allow you to not lose track of your inventory and lessen chances of items expiring. Amazon has many affordable and different options to help you organize the most for your space.
Tip #3: Declutter, Declutter, Declutter
If you do not have time for anything else, this is the one thing you need to focus on most. Having an organized, decluttered space is known to improve your mood, increase your focus (because you’re not always looking for something) and give the vision of a larger space.
You can do this by:
- Going through items like makeup, medications, toiletries, food and disposing of anything that is expired.
- Reviewing all toys with missing pieces or parts or are no longer played with.
- Sorting through clothes that no longer fit or haven’t been worn in the last six months to a year.
- Worn out shoes or ones that have been outgrown by the kids.
- Removing all electronics like broken charging cords or stations and extra remotes not in use.
- Getting rid of all paper clutter like opened mail, coupons you’re not using, flyers, junk mail, magazines and newspapers if you still get hard copies. Don’t forget to recycle!
